NMWA Reopened in their newly remodeled space on October 21, 2023!

After an extensive remodeling project, the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C. will reopen! The museum is celebrating the reopening with full day of events, including performances, drop-in activities and talks, flash tattoos, and tastings!

Their opening show, entitled The Sky’s the Limit runs from Oct 21, 2023, to Feb 25, 2024 and features never-before-exhibited contemporary sculptures that dangle from the ceiling, cascade down walls, and extend far beyond their footprint on the gallery floor. Process-focused sculptures were pioneered by women creators in the mid-20th century, and they continually expand and redefine this medium. They illuminate how artists use scale and the allure of materials for maximum impact. Towering artworks on view feature an array of found objects such as silver-plated vessels, hair combs, ostrich eggs, and parasols, as well as essential materials ranging from aluminum to wool. Learn more here and plan a trip to experience the newly remodeled museum and this exhibit in person.

Women to Watch

Every 2-3 years the State and Nation Levels of National Museum of Women in the Arts designate women artists to watch. These visionary artists reimagine the past, present alternate realities, and inspire audiences to create different futures. Oregon will have an opportunity to nominate Oregon artists who fit this description in 2026.
Here are examples of prior years’ Women to Watch selections.
